Tom Holland praises his 'incredible' Romeo & Juliet co

Tom Holland's return to the stage was anything but a Shakespearean tragedy.

After the MCU star, 27, made his debut in the West End revival of Romeo & Juliet — which has received a 'barrage of deplorable racial abuse' — on Sunday night, he paid tribute to his co-stars with a cast photo on Instagram.

'Tonight was the start of something so special,' he captioned the post. 'I'm beyond proud of our cast and crew who have gone above and beyond in every way.

'I can't wait for the rest of the run. Tonight was truly a highlight of my career and I’m so glad I get to share it with these incredible people. Love you all and see you tomorrow!' added Holland.

He and Francesca Amewudah-Rivers portray the star-crossed lovers in director Jamie Lloyd's adaptation of William Shakespeare's iconic work.

The play's opening night was originally scheduled for Saturday, but the show was cancelled due to 'technical aspects of the production needing further preparation.'

Holland has also been recovering from a head injury after he was hit with a golf ball last month during a charity golf day in Scotland.

'Who ever said golf isn't a contact sport is full of s**t. You can almost see the dimples,' he wrote on his Instagram Story with a photo of the bruise on his forehead.

The Spider-Man: No Way Home actor's injury also forced him to miss last week's Met Gala, where girlfriend Zendaya served as a co-chair

He still showed his support for the Golden Globe winner, 27, sharing photos of her looks with heart-eye emojis.

A source previously told People that the couple is 'totally supportive' of one another and 'proud of each other's successes' as Zendaya's movie Challengers premiered.

'This is a plus in their relationship making it equal,' the insider said, adding: 'They are each caring toward the other. It's not a case where one is caring and the other isn't so much.

'They are great people and are there for the good and bad. As busy as they are, this is super important,' they said.

'I can't wait for the rest of the run. Tonight was truly a highlight of my career and I’m so glad I get to share it with these incredible people,' added Holland; seen in April

Holland's starring turn in the 12-week run of Romeo & Juliet comes after he made his West End debut in Billy Elliot the Musical in 2008 when he was 12.

Although the current London stage production received 'racial abuse' over the diverse casting of Amewudah-Rivers as Juliet, tickets sold out in two hours when they went live in February.

Holland is also preparing to take the Broadway stage when the revival transfers to New York later this year.

Romeo & Juliet is now playing at the Duke of York's Theatre, and tickets are available online.
